PRiME-UHN Clinical Catalyst Program Guidelines

General Info

Award Value: $45,000 for a Postdoctoral or Clinical Fellow

Award Duration: 1 year

Focus Areas: All disease areas will be considered. Primary focus is on clinical applications of basic research discoveries.

Eligibility

  • Applicants are required to be either full-time Postdoctoral Fellows or Clinical Fellows of less than 4 years at the time of application.

  • The proposed project must be a collaboration between two or more principal investigator (PIs), at least one that is based at the University of Toronto and is a member of PRiME, and one that is based at a specified research institute at the participating partner hospital institute at UHN. If a project team would like to confirm team and project eligibility prior to the submission deadline, please email: prime.initiative@utoronto.ca.

      • Krembil Research Institute

      • Princess Margaret Cancer Centre

      • Toronto General Hospital Research Institute

  • The proposed project cannot be funded by existing grants to either of the supervising members at the time of application.

  • Applicants cannot hold a PRiME Clinical Catalyst Award at the same time as any other external funding award.  Applicants holding an external award at the time of application must openly declare this and indicate the end date of the existing award. Fellows who accept another award during the term of the PRiME Clinical Catalyst Award must immediately advise the committee of this and return the remaining award funds to PRiME.


How to Apply

Applications will outline the team’s outstanding records of productivity working on cutting-edge, high-risk ideas with translational impact. The application package must include the following components:

  1. PRiME Clinical Catalyst Award application form

  2. Project Lay Summary (maximum 250 words). Provide a summary in non-specialist language of the proposal, highlighting specific project objectives and deliverables, and describing how the research is globally competitive and translatable to human health.

  3. Proposal (5 pages including references, supporting tables, and figures). Provide an overview of the proposed research, including background, methods and specific project deliverables. A short summary of the translational impact of the research should also be included specifying disease indication and/or patient population(s) expected to benefit most. If multiple indications are possible, these should all be mentioned.

  4. Short Applicant Curriculum Vitae (maximum 4 pages).

  5. Letter(s) of support (See application form for details)
