CanCOVID
Mandated by Canada’s Chief Science Officer, CanCOVID is network of Canadian researchers, clinical collaborators, and healthcare stakeholders from across the country in order to expedite communication and collaboration between these groups during the COVID-19 crisis.
COVID-19 Resources Canada
COVID-19 Resources Canada is a collection of Canadian volunteer researchers, students, activists, business professionals, and community members who are working to establish, support, and manage a nationwide network of resource sharing, volunteers, and research funding. The organization has created a reagent database to share or obtain much needed reagents for diagnostic and research applications as well as a project database which includes funded projects to find collaborators, and current funding opportunities.
The Toronto Open Access COVID-19 Protein Manufacturing Center
Through The Toronto Open Access COVID-19 Protein Manufacturing Center, BioZone and the Structural Genomics Consortium (SGC) in Toronto are collaborating to provide high purity SARS-CoV-2 proteins to the Canadian research community. For further information on available proteins and to place a request, contact the team directly.
Centre for Research & Innovation Support
The mandate of the Centre for Research & Innovation Support (CRIS) is to provide researcher-centered, practical and coordinated supports to faculty and divisional research offices at the University of Toronto. During the COVID-19 pandemic, CRIS is providing up-to-date resources available to researchers including funding opportunities and publications and online training and events.
University of Toronto’s Combined Containment Level 3 (C-CL3) Unit & Biobank
The Faculty of Medicine’s C-CL3 Unit has operated as a fully certified biocontainment level 3 facility for work with Risk Group 3 (RG3) pathogens for more than 20 years. It is central to supporting COVID-19 research, which includes: (1) fundamental evaluation of the stability of the virus; (2) development of medical countermeasures for COVID-19; and (3) development of COVID-19 diagnostics. The new Virology Core Facility and integrated Biobank enhance the capacity of the CL3 biological repository and will allow cataloging and storage of clinical specimens and other samples to support critical research initiatives, facilitate effective coordination of sample collection and sharing, enhance research capacity with RG2 viruses (including SARS-CoV-2 surrogates), and expand training opportunities. Inquiries regarding intake of all risk group 3 and/or COVID-19 related samples on campus must be made through the C-CL3 and Biobank Manager (biobank@utoronto.ca).
